NFLA Programs

The following provides descriptions of programs sponsored,
developed, and offered by the NFLA.

    Dine and Discover

The Dine and Discover program is co-sponsored by the Special
Libraries Association and provides information professionals the
opportunity to learn about local libraries and information centers in
Tallahassee and surrounding areas. Librarians and other
information professionals give tours and/or describe special
projects, programs or services in their libraries or centers. Programs
are offered during lunch or dinner to accommodate various
schedules of participants. Program hosts provide support for
networking and social time with others by offering drinks and an area
to eat brown-bag meals prior to the presentations.

    Membership Drive

Annually, NFLA hosts a membership drive by inviting all information
professionals and students in the area to an early evening social
hour of gourmet edibles and beverages.  The program is usually
held in September to encourage new students in the College of
Information and newly employed information professionals that may
have recently relocated to the area to meet and network as well as to
    join the NFLA.

    Career Night

The Career Night program is primarily geared to graduate students
at the College of Information, Florida State University.  A panel of
Information Professionals representing academic, public, school,
and special libraries present an overview of their job and open up
questions from the students for an interactive exchange.

    Continuing Education Workshops

NFLA sponsors a series of continuing education workshops on
topics of interest to local information professionals based on the
results of a needs assessment survey.

    Winter Festival of Writers

The Winter Festival of Writers began in 1986 as a program to
promote local authors, raise funds to purchase books for
disadvantaged youth, and award a high school student through a
student writing competition.  The program is generally held once a
year in early December and features several local authors and the
winner of the high school writing competition to read from their
    works.

Imagination Library

The Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region's Imagination
Library is a program designed to provide, at no cost, brand new
age appropriate books for children under the age of five.  The
funds donated by NFLA help provide deserving children with a new
            book each month.

    Annual Membership Meeting and Dinner

The annual meeting and dinner is held during the month of May.  The
president presents an annual report on NFLA activities and a
speaker is featured to discuss a topic of interest to the membership.
